Step 4. Be prepared
You are now armed with knowledge and a list of potential customers. It’s time to go out and register commercial and ROTS accounts.
Are you ready to head out the door? Do you…
1. Have AMSOIL clothing? Dress only one level above your prospect. If you are talking with a shop owner who will likely be wearing a uniform, wearing a 3 piece suit you won’t be at their level. A nice polo and jeans (nice looking ones – no holes and not faded).
2. Have a name tag? I recommend ordering a magnetic one that will not tear up your clothes. The AMSOIL name tag has a pin on the back. Call Sporty’s Awards (931) 552-9542 they will make one and send it to you for about $15. It’s the one I use.
3. Have business cards? I recommend starting out with the AMSOIL ones. They are of good quality and are inexpensive.
Note: those homemade cards printed on your computer don’t present the highest quality image. You will want to present yourself as providing a quality product and quality customer service. At least order the basic AMSOIL card. $33 for 1000 cards is a good deal. As your business grows you can get custom cards, with your picture on it.
4. Have your sales material ready? Brochures, data sheets, price lists and registration forms are necessary to conduct business.
5. Have a cell phone? You will want to be able to make calls as well as take calls when you are out working with customers. Make sure this number is on your business card and, if you have one, on your magnetic car sign.
