Step 5. Register an Account
- AMSOIL Dealers do not have territories but do have account protection.
- The four types of protected customers/accounts are Dealers, Preferred Customers, Commercial Accounts and Retail-On-The-Shelf (ROTS) or Installers.
- It’s imperative to get these customers registered as soon as possible so that you are protected.
When beginning your AMSOIL business you earn more upfront commission on Commercial and ROTS accounts. Therefore, we will discuss these accounts primarily.
Commercial Accounts
A commercial account is any business customer that would be buying AMSOIL products to use or put in their own equipment. These include, but are not limited to, fleets, delivery services, lawn care businesses, farmers, construction companies and manufacturers.
There are only 2 ways to register an AMSOIL commercial account. The first way is to log into the AMSOIL Dealers zone, then click on the Services Tab and look for Registrations, from there you can choose Commercial/Retail. Select commercial.
The cost to register a commercial account online is currently $6 and AMSOIL will mail out a packet to this customer for you.
The other way to register a commercial account is to order a G1007 Commercial Account Packet from AMSOIL. These cost $5 individually or you can order under the trade show co-op program (if you are doing trade shows) for $2.50. This is how I normally register these types of accounts. I like having all the paperwork in front of the customer at the time of registration.
Retail on the Shelf Accounts
Retail on the Shelf Accounts (ROTS) are also known as Installers. These types of accounts purchase AMSOIL products at wholesale then resell them either on the shelf or through a service. Typically, these are automotive shops, motorcycle shops, small engine shops, hardware stores, auto parts stores, etc.
The two ways to register ROTS accounts are online (same as above) and using a G1001 Account packet. The costs are also the same as above.
My thoughts on working with these accounts:
- Get them registered as soon as possible
- Work your local market
- It is important for ROTS accounts to have product
- It is important to get person in charge of a Commercial Account using AMSOIL (in personal vehicles is even better)
- Once established, asked for referrals
- Take care of your customers’ needs and they will be life-long customers
- Send local people into your ROTS for service and to purchase AMSOIL
- Help your commercial users by referring people to their business
- Connect with your customers online through social media
- It’s possible to register Commercial and ROTS accounts as dealers. Give them that option as everyone will benefit in the long run.
Qualifying a CA/ROTS Account
AMSOIL Inc has strict guidelines on registering accounts. These customers must actually be businesses. Sometimes AMSOIL requires additional information if they are a newer business or are not easily found in business directories. If you have one of these types of accounts do you best to get the information that AMSOIL requests. Sometimes you have to drive by and take a photo of the business or submit tax and business information.
Lastly if you get an account that AMSOIL disqualifies you can always make them a Preferred Customer or even a dealer. All individuals qualify as Dealers and never hurts to offer this option.
