This is how we were able to register 5 new AMSOIL Accounts and sell a case of AMSOIL Compressor Oil in one day using AMSOIL PCK Synthetic Air Compressor Oil as an ‘ice breaker’ when cold calling potential customers.
Effective Cold Calling with AMSOIL Compressor Oil
This is how it’s done:
- Drive about looking for prospective businesses and shops that would possibly have an air compressor – or two… or three (most auto repair, tire, and small engine shops will have one)
- Walk in dressed in AMSOIL branded clothing with the AMSOIL padfolio (G2635), with account registration packet and a quart of PCK
- Ask for the person in charge of their air compressors (it’s normally the owner or manager)
- Upon finding the right person, introduce yourself as an AMSOIL Dealer and ask them if they’ve ever heard of AMSOIL
A “Yes” response, gets the following reply: “Most people associate the name AMSOIL with racing and other high performance vehicles. The truth is we make ALL SORTS OF SYNTHETIC LUBRICANTS, such as greases, hydraulic fluid and what we’re telling folks about today – our PRODUCT OF THE MONTH – synthetic air compressor oil.”
If a “No” response, then say: “Well surely you’ve heard of synthetic motor oil right?” (I say that while nodding my head.) They almost always nod their head and say yes. “Well, AMSOIL invented Synthetic Motor Oils in 1972 and I’m out today telling folks about our PRODUCT OF THE MONTH – synthetic air compressor oil.”
Then you can make some sort of reference to the bottle (either shake it a bit or point to it if it’s sitting on the counter) and tell them the 3 key features/benefits to using OUR Synthetic Air Compressor Oil are:
- 8,000+ hour service life (Once a year change)
- 10% savings in electricity (approximately)
- compressors run 20-40 degrees cooler (approximately)
From there, close the sale in your normal way! Be ready to register the account and sell them a quart or 2 of the compressor oil. Have the “Confidential Wholesale Price list” and say:
“This is the AMSOIL wholesale price list. This price list has all of our products listed with wholesale and suggested retail pricing. In order for me to leave this I need to get your account setup. There are no requirements to buy, all this does is ties your account to me so I can become your servicing AMSOIL Dealer. If you decide to place an order then you will be all set.”

Note – air compressors in most shops are the most neglected piece of equipment. The shop cannot usually tell you when it was serviced last or which product was even used.

After helping these customers understand the benefits of AMSOIL products they will become lifelong customers.

Wow Bryan, this is a great idea. I know this approach will work with anyone interested in connecting, and working with business customers. Most repair type businesses as well as industrial / manufacturing businesses have air compressors. Some air compressors hold 50 gallons of oil!
