This weeks Q&A talks about a tough question.
Dealer asks:
I want to know how to answer the tough questions without looking up the answer or going to technical service. In particular this account asked me how AMSOIL compares to API SN rating, as well as the General Motors Dexos 1 and the ILSAC Gf5.
My reply:
Dear dealer, your question is an interesting one and one that requires further explaination.
1. To answer the so called “hard questions” will require training and experience on your part. Learning and understanding the fundamentals of lubrication and how AMSOIL products are superior to all other products will take time. My recommendation is that if you want to become more knowledgeable about lubrication is to start learning about it. You can subscribe to some excellent publications for starters.
We recommend that you subscribe to these publications:You can also take classes from the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers https://www.stle.org/
As an AMSOIL Dealer you have exclusive access to AMSOIL Inc. training both live and online. Your first stop should be the AMSOIL Dealers zone and click on the training tab. Within the training tab you can take online classes called The AMSOIL Home Study Guides.
These guide include:
- Lubrication Fundamentals
- Engine Lubrication
- Engine Operation
- Filtration Fundamentals
- Mobile Drive-train Fluids
- Oil Analysis Fundamentals
Besides the training course you also can access
- Field Sales Tools
- Product One Voice
- Business Development Tools
- Dealer Business Blueprints
- Training Videos
- Webinars
- Plant Tours
- Sales Scenarios and more
You will want to log into your dealers zone and click on the training tab or if you are not a current Dealer you will want to register as an AMSOIL dealer first.
Live Training takes place at AMSOIL University. This year AMSOIL will have a “core technology” along with the 40th Anniversary Celebration. You can register for the AMSOIL Core Technology help July 16-18, 2013. You can register here.
Honestly I don’t believe you can ever know it all. The AMSOIL business is an “Earn while you learn” business. Meaning, get familiar with the products you are interested in, then add additional knowledge as time goes by. Learn more about the products and the performance as you go and you will be able to answer the “hard questions” in no time.
As time goes by, the hard questions are not really that hard. You will gain experience and knowledge that will help you get through any situation. Keep learning every day or contact your sponsor, direct jobber or technical services if you need to.
